Zoodiac proved to be quite a different and equally exciting challenge for me because of its unusual setup. The outcome of each round is far more straightforward given the single payline and the game makes that quite unpredictable with its high level of volatility.

Zoodiac Slot Bonus Features

With Zoodiac, Popiplay has gone for a very different structure which took me by surprise when I first launched the game. You effectively get two halves of a card showing on the screen, with the right side being revealed first before the left. If both card halves match, you score a win. This means that you have two reels and a single row, together with a single payline.

Although there are loads of different cards, representing different Chinese zodiac signs including a tiger, monkey, dragon, snake and pig, these all have the same payout value. The point here is to keep your winning streak going, claiming bigger and better win multipliers in the process.

Scatter symbol

Strictly speaking, there are no traditional special features in Zoodiac and so there are no scatter symbols. But the online slot does have a respin feature, although this is activated in a completely different way.

Respins

Respins is technically the only special feature you get in Zoodiac and this is crucial to the gameplay loop. Whenever you score a win, you automatically trigger a respin and this process carries on until you hit the maximum of nine respins or there are no more wins on screen.

With each new respin, you get a higher win multiplier, starting at 2x your win and capping at 2,000x your win. You may also land golden mask symbols which look like regular symbols with a golden outline and these can have a random win multiplier of up to 2,000x. The golden mask symbols can land on any given spin.

I tested Zoodiac on my Android phone through a Chrome browser and enjoyed the video slot’s mobile performance. The game is very smooth and there are no changes at all to the interface which remains identical to that found in the desktop version.

But while I wholeheartedly commend the innovation and fresh ideas in play, Zoodiac ultimately puts all of its eggs in one basket, with very limited features to speak of. The 2,000x max win can be quite rewarding, but the gameplay loop can get tiring after a while. Although hardcore players may have no issue playing through the grind, this may not be all that ideal for casual players looking for a more diverse range of mechanics.

Visually, the game looks fantastic with excellent graphics and jaw-dropping animations that light up the screen whenever they hit. Sound is great too, helping to immerse you further in the world of the game. The math model is also balanced with a great RTP of 97% accompanying the high volatility setting. On the other hand, while the max win can lead to some satisfying wins, it’s a far cry from some of the bigger prizes you can get from other high volatility games.

So, while Zoodiac proves to be an original and innovative way to play, it ultimately falls short due to a lack of features and limited win potential.
