Pro Tips

I would advise against buying the feature on this one, assuming that option is available to you. There are some very pricey options, with the most expensive being 591x your stake. It’s the highest I have ever seen, and while it activates a feature-rich round, it could also lead to big losses.

It’s too risky, and I speak from a place of experience, as I tested it myself a few times and didn’t get a return higher than the wagered amount.

It happens, and it’s to be expected—it’s a game of chance, after all—but when there is so much money on the table and such a great distance between your usual wager and the feature cost, those losses can be staggering.

Wild Wild Gold Slot Bonus Features

The Wild Scatter instantly caught my eye. It’s something I am used to seeing in “Book Of” slots like Book of Dead and something that rarely gets an outing away from this popular theme.

There’s a free spins feature, too. Like many players, I expect to see free spins on new slots. I much prefer a bonus-heavy slot with free spins to a classic game with little more than Scatter Pays.

They have to be done right, though, and that means introducing unique elements to the reels that differentiate them from base game reels. Wild Wild Gold does this, giving us an Expanding Symbol.

Beyond that, however, there wasn’t anything that really grabbed me. No modifiers, Cascading Reels, expanding grids, Sticky/Locked Symbols, or jackpots—none of the things I have come to expect from Popiplay.

Wild Scatter

The Wild was probably my favourite thing about the Wild Wild Gold slot.

It shows a golden sheriff’s badge with the game name plastered across the front. It plays several roles in this slot, as it substitutes for other symbols (usually, I would add that there’s an exclusion for Scatters, but this time it is the Scatter) while triggering payouts for two matches or more and launching the free spins round.

You need 3 symbols to trigger the feature and get 10 free spins, although it’s possible to get as many as 5 Scatters on the reels. Extra ones won’t give you more free spins, but you will get a higher instant payout. In my case, I unlocked it with 4 Scatters, and while I was initially disappointed to see I only had 10 spins, they came with an extra payout of 20x.

One more, and I would have picked up 200x before the feature even began!

Free Spins

When that 20x payout triggered and the free spins launched, the barrel symbol was chosen to become an Expanding Symbol. This symbol stays in its expanding form throughout the feature (although it will only expand when doing so can trigger a win), and while I was unfortunate to get one of the lowest-value symbols, any of them can be chosen to become the Expanding Symbol.

Gamble Round

The gamble mini game is an optional feature. I triggered it after a few early wins by clicking the little playing cards icon that appears to the top-left of the spin button.

I was able to double up a few times with this round, which doesn’t usually happen (I seem to be cursed to always choose the losing option). I was in demo mode at the time, though, so I didn’t capitalise.

Wild Wild Gold Slot on Mobile

I enjoyed playing Wild Wild Gold on mobile. Some of the dynamic background features disappear, but there’s not much happening there anyway, and I was still able to see everything on the reels, access all of the game’s features, and use the menu icons and controls without issue.

The game should be available on most Android and iOS devices, as I was able to play it on both without issue.

My Final Verdict

I liked Wild Wild Gold, but it didn’t blow me away. I would have preferred more features and a higher RTP. The free spins feature is great, thanks to the addition of the Expanding Symbol, and I love the Wild Scatter combination, but that’s it. There wasn’t enough to keep me interested during the base game and, at 94.94%, the RTP is on the low side.

Popiplay has far better slots in its catalogue, but don’t give up on this one just yet. The aforementioned features make it worthwhile, as does the maximum win, which comes to a total of 7,500x (the menu screen says 7,790x, but this is seemingly only available with the addition of the gamble feature).
