There’s a lot happening on these reels. I recommend playing the demo game first to get used to the chaos. That’s how I first approached the game, and in addition to checking out the basic features and rules, I was also able to buy the bonus and give UniBOOM a shot.

I was disappointed to discover that Unipopcorn didn’t have a standard free spins feature, but that disappointment came before being fascinated with the game’s other features.

At that point, it’s like walking into a sweet shop stocked with the world’s best treats and then being disappointed there are no Skittles.

Cluster Pays and Cascading Reels

This feature combo is one of my favourites. Rather than traditional paylines, it pays for “clusters” of matching symbols. If there is a vertical/horizontal connection, it’s part of the cluster, and a minimum of 5 are needed for a payout.

Once that payout hits, all winning symbols pop out of view, and new ones fall down. All those boiled and gummy sweets rain down from above the reels, and if there are more winning combinations, the process repeats.

Wilds and Wild Modifiers

Unicorns are Wild in this game. They make a massive difference when they land on the reels, as they can connect all kinds of clusters by substituting for most other symbols.

There are also scores of Wild modifiers and other modifiers, helping to create winning combos or destroy symbols:

• Sweet Dream: Matching symbols that form a square are merged into a single symbol.
• Sugar Shine: Low-paying symbols start to glimmer, and if they form wins, they are replaced by Wilds.
• Sweets Robber: Turns 3 to 6 symbols Wild.
• Sweet Prank: An entire symbol type transforms into another.
• X-Shoot: A Wild lands in the middle of the grid and turns symbols diagonally connected into Wilds.
• Oops Lollipops: Destroys low-paying symbols.
• Second Chance: Turns random symbols Wild during non-winning spins.

UniBOOM

The UniBOOM feature is the game’s main bonus. To unlock the feature, you need to fill the Progress Bar by accumulating wins. The more you fill this bar, the better the feature becomes. Once activated, it creates Giant Wilds and can lead to big cascading chain reactions.

Unipopcorn Slot Design and Visuals

The sweet, saccharine design of Unipopcorn reminds me a lot of Sweet Bonanza, and not just because of the assault of colour and sweets. The general design and layout are very similar, too, and I’m struggling to decide which of the two games I prefer.

I enjoyed both of them and not just because I have an insatiable sweet tooth and a love of all things sugary. There’s certainly more of a pink hue to Unipopcorn, but the reels are also bigger and there’s more going on here.

If you prefer darker slots that explore the supernatural, like Cultist, or the crazy, like Mental, don’t dismiss this one. The truth is, I enjoy most of those slots as well, but I’m still drawn to the candy-coated reels of Unipopcorn.

How to Play the Unipopcorn Slot

The many modifiers can be confusing if you’re new to this slot and others like it, but it’s quite easy to get started.

Use the plus and minus buttons to set your stake, and then hit the big button in the bottom right to spin. I have discussed the features and modifiers in this review if you need more guidance. You can also click the settings icon (three lines) to check the rules (question mark) and paytable (moneybag).

Click the orange “Bonus Buy” icon to skip ahead and unlock the main feature (UniBOOM) for 100x your stake. I tried it a couple of times in demo mode and didn’t get more than I paid either time (48x and then 29x), but it’s a game of chance, and you shouldn’t expect big wins every time.

Unipopcorn Slot Mobile Compatibility

Despite the size of the grid, Unipopcorn looks great on mobile devices. I much preferred it on an iPad to an iPhone or Android phone, but I like my slots big and impactful, and it still looks good on smaller screens.

Would I Recommend Unipopcorn to Players?

Absolutely! Popiplay has a catalogue of impressive titles, and Unipopcorn is one of the best. It looks great and plays even better.

With the current popularity of sweet-themed slots, it’s not exactly unique, but it makes the theme its own with a combination of standout features, including the winning combo that is Cluster Pays and Cascading Reels, as well as the excellent UniBOOM, and so many modifiers that I lost count.

If I could change one thing, it would be the addition of a free spins feature, but even without this common feature, Unipopcorn is still a great slot game.
