Trader’s Fortune is an Asian-food-themed slot released by Popiplay in August 2024. Its expansive grid promises a massive respin feature, high volatility, payouts of up to 10,000x, and a Wild multiplier, the latter of which is a crisp fortune cookie that ends a delectable meal of dim sum symbols.

Sharing my Thoughts

I had a lot of fun with Trader’s Fortune, and I was lucky enough to land a very large payout in the respins feature. There were some downsides, and the main one is that I was playing in demo mode when I won that prize!

In my Trader’s Fortune review, I’ll discuss the things I loved about this slot, as well as the areas I think could be improved.

Before you rush in, though, consider playing the demo first. The game is very easy to learn. It’s not interactive, and it’s not complicated, so you don’t have to worry about learning the rules to ensure you don’t mess up. It’s all about getting a feel for the volatility and making sure it’s the sort of game you’re looking for.

Advantages & Drawbacks of the Trader’s Fortune Slot

In my opinion, the respin feature is what makes this slot a must-play. It’s advertised as a “free spins with respins” feature, and that’s because you get 3 free spins that can reset, effectively becoming respins. Most players will recognise this as a respin feature, though, one that works in a similar way to the classic Hold and Win.

The RTP is high, the max win is a generous 10,000x, and there are Wilds with multipliers in the base game.

So, what’s not to like? Well, despite having 5 reels and rows, the grid only has 15 paylines, and there are no randomly activated features or mini-games to break up the monotony of long gaming sessions.

Pros
  • Thumbs-Up Free spins feature
  • Thumbs-Up High max win (10,000x)
  • Thumbs-Up High RTP (97.14%)

Cons

  • Thumbs-Down Very few features

Pro Tips

Trader’s Fortune is a high volatility slot, which means that wins are infrequent but tend to be on the generous side. I can attest to this, as it took me a long time to unlock the bonus feature (see below), and I didn’t land many big wins outside of that.

There isn’t much you can do about this, as that volatility will stay high regardless. However, it means that if you’re planning to split your session budget into 20 or 30 large wagers, you should consider halving the stake and trying to eke out at least twice as many spins.

I always try to budget for at least 50 spins when playing slots like this, as it gives me a decent chance of landing the bonus and means I have time to balance out that volatility.

Bear in mind that even 50 might not be enough. It certainly wouldn’t have been enough for me during my first session of Trader’s Fortune, and if not for the fact I was playing the demo, I would have lost my budget before unlocking the feature.

Trader’s Fortune Slot Bonus Features

The Trader’s Fortune game grid measures 5 reels by 5 rows, and it’s positioned behind a dynamic backdrop that includes flowing water and swaying decorations. Combined with its 3D visuals, I fully expected this game to offer a feast of bonuses—it certainly looks the sort.

In reality, however, it was very limited. Imagine my disappointment when I opened the paytable and found only four basic screens, as opposed to the plethora of feature screens I was expecting.

Other than the Wild, which also acts as a multiplier, the only feature is the free spins round.

It’s a good feature, and as you’ll see below, I secured a big win playing it, but I would have liked—and expected—so much more.

Wilds

tradrer's fortune big win
I thought the fortune cookie was a nice touch, especially as it could be hiding an actual fortune. This symbol is the Wild in Trader’s Fortune, and it offers a multiplier of up to 10x during the base game.

Scatter Symbol

The waving chef is the Scatter symbol in the Trader’s Fortune slot game. It’s an important symbol, as it launches the free spin and respin feature and can also expand the grid. I definitely kept my eyes peeled for this one, but it didn’t appear very often.

I had 30 spins before I saw two Scatter symbols on the reels at the same time, and it took a whopping 155 spins before I landed three and unlocked the free spins (yes, I counted).

Free Spins/Respins

It may have taken me a long time to unlock the free spins organically, but in the end, it was worth it. I had a lot of success with this feature and claimed a big win of 169x the first time I unlocked it.

To start with, I was given 3 respins, but every time a multiplier or an Opening Reel symbol appeared, the spin count reset to 3.

I felt unstoppable initially, as these symbols landed on most spins. The first few Opening Reel symbols expanded the size of the grid to a maximum of 5×6, while all multipliers thereafter increased the value of the total multipliers shown down the side of the grid.

The colour of the tags in the multiplier cookies dictates how big they are, but as long as they keep landing, the spin count keeps resetting, and the total values grow:

  • 🍪💚Green Cookies: A value of 1+ to 20+ is added to the row on which the symbol lands.
  • 🍪💙Blue Cookies: A value of 1+ to 20+ is added to the row on which the symbol lands.
  • 🍪💜Purple Cookies: The row is multiplied by up to 20x.
  • 🍪❤️Red Cookies: The row is multiplied by up to 20x.

The feature reminds me of Hold and Win slots like Lion Gems Hold and Win, as they also have respins that reset when certain symbols land.

The difference is that Hold and Win tasks you with adding Bonus symbols to the reels and pays depending on how many of these appear. In this Trader’s Fortune feature, the multiplier and Opening Reel icons disappear as soon as they impact the grid, so the spaces don’t fill up.

Trader’s Fortune Slot on Mobile

I was unsure as to whether Trader’s Fortune would look as good on mobile as it did desktop. It’s a big grid, and there’s a lot happening. However, the developers have done a good job of trimming the background and fitting the grid onto smaller devices without hindering the gameplay experience.

I tried it on a large iPhone and an iPad, and while I prefer the latter, there wasn’t really that much difference. It wasn’t as impressive on my Android device, but the one I used for the purpose of this test is at least five years old and very small.

My Final Verdict

I expected Trader’s Fortune to be more than it was. It had the feel of a slot that was going to bombard me with bonuses, and I was more than ready for them!

That wasn’t the case, but it didn’t disappoint me. The free spins feature was excellent, and while it took me a long time to trigger it, I enjoyed it while it was active, and I was delighted to see such a big payout appear.

The graphics are well-designed, the audio complements them perfectly, and I appreciated playing on a large grid that can grow during the main feature.

It could have been better, but it’s a good game, nonetheless, and it’s hard not to recommend it.

Your Questions Answered

Still got some questions? Contact me to get the answers. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

It’s a maximum payout, not a jackpot, so there is no single trigger. The most likely way is via the free spins feature, which can send some big multipliers your way.

The fortune cookie and fish are the two biggest symbols.

During the free spins, the multiplier on each row can grow by 20 at a time, and it will keep growing until you reach the maximum win.

It begins as a 5×5 grid but can expand to 5×7 with the Opening Reel symbol, which appears during the main feature.
