Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix slot review
The original Rainbow Riches slot is a simple but favourite slot based on a lucky Irish leprechaun theme, where you’ve got the chance to find the riches hidden at the end of the rainbow. The sequel, Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix, might look like the original – but just one spin will prove just how different it is.
I’d say that this 2016 Barcrest slot is the ultimate slot for players who know a thing or two about variance and how to make the most of the features. The slot actually gives you the option to choose the features you want to play with, along with a Big Bet feature to allow you to trigger them more frequently. it’s quite a complex game and perhaps not one for a new player – but we’ll go through it in detail in this review to give you a better idea.

Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix bonus features
Before your first spin of the slot, you’ll be asked to select from five different bonus features to appear during gameplay. You can choose up to three, and the less you choose, the more chance you’ll have of triggering that feature.
Should you change your mind about the features, just hit the “Reset bonus” button to choose again. In my opinion, the key with the features is finding the right balance of variance, since what may appear to be more rewarding might not appear so often.
Bonus
The five different bonus features to choose from are:
- Road to Riches (medium wins): Three or more leprechaun faces will trigger a wheel of multiplier values. When you click to collect, your multiplier will be applied to your win
- Pots of Gold (medium to high wins): Whenever three or more pots of gold appear, they’ll fly across the reels before one is randomly chosen to reveal a multiplier
- Free Spins (low wins): Three or more Free Spins symbols can award up to 30 free spins. The Free Spins symbols will also stack and function as wilds to allow for more wins. This feature can be retriggered
- Cash Crop (medium to high wins): A Pick ‘n’ Win feature, this is triggered by three or more little leprechauns. A screen of spinning gold coins will then appear, and you can choose to pick up to three to reveal a bigger and better coin win, or stick with your original prize
- Magic Toadstool (low to medium wins): Another Pick ‘n’ Win feature, three or four toadstools will allow you three clicks from 24 possible icons to reveal multipliers or the chance to retrigger
Remember, you can choose to select just one or two features instead of the maximum three – so if there’s a feature you love playing with, try sticking with just this.
Big Bets
If you feel like the bonus features aren’t hitting often enough, you actually have the power to trigger them via the Big Bets feature. This is a big purple button on the side of the reels that instantly increases your bet significantly. When you do this, you’ll be taken to another screen that shows a wheel per bonus feature you selected at the beginning.
Each wheel will spin, giving you the chance to win either five free Mega Spins with multipliers, or your bonus feature. The higher your bet, the more chance you have to hit the bonus feature, which we feel can often be more lucrative than the Mega Spins. For example, the Free Spins feature could award up to 30 spins and can be retriggered – so you could be better off with this option.
Free spins
Speaking of free spins, they are on the lower end of the variance scale when it comes to the five bonus rounds, so the wins may not be quite a big as other features.
Wilds
The gold coin symbols function as a wild and can substitute for any symbol other than bonus symbols.
Rainbow Riches PIck ‘n’ Mix jackpot
You won’t find a jackpot at the end of the rainbow, but you could find wins of up to 250,000 coins.
RTP and volatility
The interesting thing about this slot is the huge variation in the return to player. Lower bets can achieve an RTP starting from 94%… but the higher you bet, the closer you could get to an RTP of 98% which would put it on the list of highest RTP slots.
Overall, I’d classify Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix as a low to medium volatility slot, and it all depends on the bonus features you select at the start. If you find you’re not getting enough wins, try resetting the bonus features and pick rounds that hit a little more frequently.
