Here at JohnSlots, we’ve been reviewing video slots for quite a long time, developing a particular process when it comes to evaluating online slots. Several factors come into play and I’ll walk through our ethos, to give you a better understanding of what we focus on when assessing these games.
The very first thing we evaluate is a slot’s features and bonuses. We make sure these are up to scratch, fair and ideally innovative or original. Next up is a video slot’s math model and we take a look at the volatility, RTP and maximum win potential a game has to offer. We also consider an online slot’s theme, design and sounds. Lastly, we assess the game’s security and safety, as well as its playability.

Pros and Cons of Queen of the Nile Slot
I felt like the wild symbols were incredibly strong here, particularly because of the win multiplier they bring to the table. On the other hand, while I still enjoyed the free spins bonus, I wish it was packed with more mechanics to make it even more distinct than the base game.
- Very high RTP of 97.11%
- Wild symbols with pay values and win multipliers
- Free spins with a respins feature
- Unique and superbly executed theme
- Minimal changes to mechanics in the free spins bonus
- Relatively low max bet level
Pros Tips
If you’re jumping into Queen of the Nile, you’ll want to consider a couple of things.
First off, this is a highly volatile game, so be sure to set a low bet level – something that will buy you as many spins as possible. This gives you a better chance of triggering the bonus rounds several times and potentially hitting the online slot’s biggest wins.
The other thing to keep in mind is that like all video slots, this game runs with a random number generator (RNG), so there is no way to influence the outcome. Always play the game for fun rather than profit and you’ll have an enjoyable experience.

Queen of the Nile Slot Bonus Features
Despite the unusual theme and setting accompanying Queen of the Nile, you’re treated to a rather traditional grid comprising five reels and three rows. They have a total of 15 paylines, potentially seeing you hitting wins of up to 10,100x your stake. Of course, this largely depends on the symbols you manage to fit into your combinations.
Wins are put together when you have a minimum of three identical symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. The low-paying tokens give you hieroglyphics shaped royal card symbols from J to A. These vary in terms of payout value, but you could potentially score a 6.5x win for putting together five identical symbols.
There’s also a mid-paying symbol depicting a Horus artifact, and this could get you wins of up to 7x your bet for five matching symbols. Of course, the most lucrative symbols sit at the very top of the pay table and these include a shocked archaeologist, a moustache-twirling, monocle-wearing Victorian aristocrat, a red-eyed demonic mummy, the jackal god Anubis and the royalty of the Nile herself (presumably Cleopatra). You get varying wins for these symbols, but the ruler Cleopatra symbol is the highest paying of the lot awarding you with a 75x win for five-of-a-kind symbols.
Wilds
Wild symbols are very much a thing here, showing up as red-gold scarab emblems adorning the eye of Horus. They perform their general duties, stepping in for missing pay symbols that could form a winning combination and enhancing existing wins for even stronger payouts.
As I previously mentioned, wild symbols also come with their payout values, matching the highest-paying, Cleopatra symbol with wins of up to 75x your stake. Wilds also add a win multiplier whenever they form part of a winning combination. One, two, three, four or five wilds add a 2x, 4x, 8x,16x or 32x win multiplier, respectively.
Scatter symbol
The free spins tomb is unlocked through scatter symbols, and you’ll need a minimum of three scatter symbols to get through. Whenever they land on the reels, they’re conveniently gathered in a meter on the left-hand side of the reels. Three, four or five scatter symbols will get you 10, 15 or 20 free spins respectively.
Landing scatter symbols during the free spins bonus adds even more bonus rounds to your tally. Three of them will get you an additional 10 free spins.
Free Spins
The free spins bonus doesn’t bring all that many changes to the overall gameplay. There aren’t all that many new mechanics, except for the respin feature. Whenever you score a winning combination during free spins, the winning symbols are held on the reels, while the rest of the tiles re-spin. This carries on until there are no more wins on the grid.
The free spins bonus ends once you run out of rounds. All of your bonus wins then pay out and you return to the base game.
Queen of the Nile Slot on Mobile
You can hunt down mummies and ancient Gods on your phone too, thanks to Queen of the Nile’s excellent mobile compatibility. I was able to fire the game up from my Android device using a Chrome browser, but you can do so across all kinds of mobile browsers on both Android and iOS platforms.
The game runs flawlessly on mobile, complete with all the same eye-popping graphics, mechanics and lucrative win potential. So, you’re treated to a seamless experience across all systems. The only issue I found was that the game only works in landscape mode, with no portrait mode option. It’s a minor inconvenience but can potentially be off-putting for players who like to play with one hand.
Conclusion
I can easily say that this is one of my favourite Popiplay games.
The first thing that caught my eye is the slot’s fantastic theme. I’ve seen more Egyptian-themed video slots than I care to admit and most of them are so generic, they’ve started to blur into one mediocre blob. But Queen of the Nile merges the foggy streets of London with the mystery of ancient Egypt, swapping the usual temple and goddess imagery for the capital of the Victorian empire. Sure, we see less of the kingdom of Egypt and don’t focus on the history that connects that dynasty to cities like Alexandria and figures like Julius Caesar, but we still get a brilliant setup.
The symbols are wonderfully designed too, contrasting with the immersive backdrops that set up an aptly spooky mood. Throw in some nifty animations and an appropriately unsettling soundtrack, and you have a winning package. It’s great to see that Popiplay has avoided the more usual cliches with pyramids, the sphinx and an occasional pharaoh, in favour of a different approach that focuses on an altogether different aspect of this civilization.
But it’s not just the looks that work. The slot has a fantastically balanced math model that merges high volatility with a significantly high RTP of 97.11%. When you consider the max win potential of 10,100x your stake, that sounds very promising. The only downside here is that bets are capped at £20, which can potentially limit the size of your wins.
Now we come to the feature set. There aren’t all that many mechanics in play here, but the included set of features still manages to work incredibly well, especially when paired with the slot’s math model. Wilds are particularly exciting since they come with both a pay value and a win multiplier that can significantly impact your rewards. Free spins still feel a bit lacking, but the respin mechanic can lead to some brilliant wins. Especially if you manage to get high-paying symbols to stick to the reels.
So, all in all, the Queen of the Nile slot proves to be one of Popiplay’s best efforts, combining an engaging theme with lucrative win potential and a satisfying set of features.
