Mythos Slot Demo

Mythos is an epic Popiplay slot steeped in Greek mythology. Launched in June 2024, it takes players to a world of fire, brimstone, lightning, and chaos; a world ruled by the 12 vengeful, powerful—and, let’s be honest, a little petty—gods of Olympus.

How We Rate Slots

I have been reviewing slots and casinos since the days of download-only casinos where everything was developed by Games Global and features like Megaways were a lifetime away. In recent years, I have written extensively for JohnSlots, covering the latest and great slot titles, as well as lots of disappointing ones.

My review process is extensive and usually begins with a 30-60 minute session on the demo. But, of course, I’m a player as well, so if I fancy a real money session, I’ll just switch to one of my preferred sites and conduct my review there.

Everything from the RTP to the features and payout frequency is considered, but special attention is paid to free spins and unlockable features, including base game features like Cascading Reels, which are a personal favourite of mine.

Hopefully, my efforts make it easier for you to find the very best slots. You will waste less time searching for suitable titles and can devote more of your slot bankroll to games you will actually enjoy playing!

It’s a highly volatile slot with a 10-spin feature cycle, so plan your session so that it ends at the end of one of these cycles. It’s not imperative to take all 10 spins—if your budget is dry, it’s time to call it a day regardless—but the odds of a base game win increase significantly at the end of each cycle, so it’s worth playing to the end.

Of course, this feature can trap you as well. You start with a high wager and realise it’s too rich for your blood, but you don’t want to step back and restart the cycle. I’ve been there. I get it. But as difficult as it seems, you just have to bite the bullet and reduce your stake or back out entirely.

To avoid such issues, plan in 10-spin cycles, even if it means reducing your stake to accommodate.

Pros & Cons of Mythos Slot

I liked most aspects of the Mythos slot, including the Heroic Frame feature, which I’ll discuss in more detail below. There’s not really anything that I dislike enough to stop me from playing the game again, but there are certainly a few things that could have made the game better.

Pros
  • Thumbs-Up Heroic Frames active in the base game
  • Thumbs-Up Wilds and Sticky Wilds
  • Thumbs-Up Bonus Spins with 10 spins
  • Thumbs-Up Multipliers added to Heroic Frames
Cons
  • Thumbs-Down Bonus Spins can’t be retriggered
  • Thumbs-Down No unlockable bonus mini-games
  • Thumbs-Down Low maximum win of 2,800x

Pro Tips

The very first thing I did in this slot was buy the bonus feature. It felt like a good way to become acquainted with the game. Plus, it was a demo, so I had nothing to lose.

Over the next 10 Bonus Spins, I was bombarded with numerous “Big Win”, “Mega Win”, and other such announcements. It felt good. A great way to start my day, even if I did have to remind myself that I was using fun play credits and was still as poor as I had been before.

I finished the round with what I considered to be an epic win—333x. It has been a long time since I’ve won that much on any slot. Imagine my surprise then when I realised the bonus had cost me 400x.

Luckily, this tempting and incredibly risky option isn’t available for real money UK players, but it’s a good example of the risks we take with high volatility slots. Yes, you can win big, but you could also find yourself 30-spins in without a single penny in reply, at which point your balance is dwindling and your frustration is building.

My best advice for this slot, therefore, is to play with a lower stake than you usually would. This is especially important if you’re planning a long session, as the dry spells common in highly volatile slots can be a shock to your system.

Also, if you’re reading this review outside of the UK and considering the “Buy Bonus” option, stick with the basic option of the three (Random Wilds) or reduce your stake considerably.

There’s no guarantee you’ll get a return, even with the 400x, and that’s a lot to lose on a single spin. It’s basically an entire bankroll!

Mythos Slot Bonus Features

Base game features are the norm these days, thanks in large part to mechanics like Megaways and Cascading Reels, which always go down well with players. Mythos has its own take on this trend, known as Heroic Frame, and this is enhanced by the addition of Wilds, Sticky Wilds, and Bonus Spins.

Personally, I would always prefer the addition of Cluster Pays and Cascading Reels, even though I can take or leave Megaways. However, Popiplay has still crafted something interesting here, taking you on your own odyssey.

Heroic Frame

The Hero symbol depicts an image of Hercules, proudly holding a spear and wearing a robe made of the Nemean Lion. It serves as the game’s Wild, as well as its most important symbol.

When the Hero appears in the base game, it leaves behind a Heroic Frame, with the borders of the symbols turning gold. These frames are essentially collected during each 10-spin cycle, the progress of which is recorded in the small blue lights along the top of the reels.

At the end of each 10-spins, the Heroic Frames transform into Wilds, after which they reset and the process repeats.

When a Hero symbol lands on a Heroic Frame, it adds a 1x multiplier (look for the number displayed beneath Zeus on the side of the reels for the current total), and this is then added to all winnings on the 10th spin.

Scatter Symbol and Bonus Spins

The image of Zeus’s hand gripping a lightning bolt is the Scatter. It can only appear on the three middle reels, and all three are needed to trigger 10 Bonus Spins. Although this feature can’t be retriggered, it is still one of the most notable aspects of this slot.

It’s all about the Hero Wild. These symbols are active throughout the Bonus Spins round, and after landing on the reels, they become Sticky Wilds and stay in place for the duration.

Mythos Slot on Mobile

The Mythos slot works on smartphones and tablets, with support for iOS and Android. I tried the game on an iPhone, and it worked about as fluidly as you would expect for a modern mobile-friendly slot. The experience is a little more tactile on mobile, mainly due to the spin’s button compression animation and the rolling and slamming action of the reels.

It’s also more streamlined, though. In the desktop games, the backdrop is an epic, sweeping vista of an ancient Greek city, including an acropolis and triremes sailing in the bay. On mobile, all of these are cut out, and you just have a zoomed image of a small template.

Still, the gameplay was good, and all of the features are there, so there are no complaints from me.

Conclusion

I’m not usually drawn to slots that use tried-and-tested themes, which is why I prefer interesting and exploratory themes as opposed to ancient Egypt and Greece. But PopiPlay has done a great job of designing this one, and it perfectly complements the features, which are the real star of the show.

Heroic Frames keeps the base game spins interesting, and the free spins elevate everything further. Volatility is very high and this will understandably deter some players, but you can reduce your stake and take it slowly to prepare.

I would have preferred it if the free spins were re-triggerable, and a higher maximum win wouldn’t go amiss, either (2,800x is definitely on the low side). However, the pros outweigh the cons and contribute to a very enjoyable slot.

It’s a good effort from PopiPlay and I think that a lot of players will be happy with this one, especially if they are fans of slots like the Playtech Age of the Gods series.

FAQs

I can only answer frequently asked questions if they’re actually being asked. So, if you have any queries about this slot, regardless of how small, feel free to contact me and I will endeavour to respond as quickly as I can. All questions and comments are welcome!

The maximum payout is capped at 2,800x.

There are three variations of the bonus to buy, costing 50x, 100x, and 400x, but these are not offered to UK players.

The game does have these options alongside the main spin button, but they are not available in the United Kingdom.

The Hero Wild has the biggest impact both in the base game and the feature. Besides this, the Snakes return the highest payouts for 5 on a line and are also the only symbols that award wins with just 2 matches.
