If you’re new to slots or even just Megaways™ slots, I recommend trying this one in demo mode first. The game grid is large, there are a lot of features, and the Megaways™ feature with Tumbling Reels can make for a confusing experience if you’re not used to this sort of thing.

I managed to pick things up fairly quickly, but I’ve been playing games like this for years, and an inexperienced player may struggle.

Megaways™ always takes the spotlight. It’s a feature that most players love, including me, and it forms a central part of every slot that features it.

If you’re new to this mechanic, it works by randomising the rows on each spin, this revealing anywhere from a few symbols to a few dozen symbols on each reel. This also changes the paylines, which can reach up to 117,649 per spin.

There are no fixed paylines. Instead, it uses a “ways to win” system, whereby wins form whenever there are three to six matching symbols connecting continuously from the first reel.

As with many other Megaways™ slots, there is also a Tumbling Reels feature, which removes winning symbols from the reels and drops new ones in their place.

There’s clearly a lot happening in the base game, and it certainly kept me busy, but there are other features to unlock as well.

Wilds

The Wild symbol depicts the game’s logo. As with all Megaways™ slots, it plays a key role. Most of my biggest wins in the base game came when I had at least three of these symbols.

It’s worth noting, though, that the Wild doesn’t land on the first reel. It also doesn’t substitute for Scatter, Money, or Collect symbols.

Scatter, Money, and Collect Symbol

The Money symbol lands with a randomly assigned multiplier of 2x to 15x, and if a Collect symbol appears, all of those values will be “collected” at the end of the tumbles.

I saw quite a few Scatters during my playthroughs, but frustratingly didn’t land the feature. Rather than revealing a fixed number of Scatters, you need to get the Scatter in combination with a Collect symbol, and that combination wasn’t forthcoming for me.

Free Spins

Frustrated with the lack of an organic trigger, I ended up paying for the feature. It costs 120x the stake via the “Buy Free Spins” button, but isn’t available for real money UK players (I used the demo).

It begins with an option to collect six spins or gamble for additional spins. I gambled for five extra and won, and I then claimed 173x from the feature. It was fun, but there’s a lot happening, so it can be hard to keep track.

Basically, you’ll collect standard wins and Wild-boosted wins, and the Collect symbol also produces big payouts from Money and Jackpot symbols, with the latter offering four jackpots of between 20x and 2,500x.

Wild West-themed slots are very popular right now, and the popularity of Megaways™ titles seems to be growing with every new releases. The Mustang Gold Megaways™ slot jumps on both of these gravy trains, and it kept me interested by adding a few great features to the mix.

The massive grid is the first thing that drew my attention, and the twilight desert backdrop provided a nice cosy touch. It’s also not overly cartoony, which is a trap that many new slots fall into.

My only criticism of the design is that the game screen is very cluttered, with jackpots, Double Chance features, the Megaways™ logo, and the Buy Feature option (not available in the UK) all stacked alongside a grid that’s already very busy.

How to Play the Mustang Gold Megaways™ Slot

The first thing you should do on loading Mustang Gold Megaways™ is get accustomed to the features and options. Once you do that, just follow the steps I took to start playing:

• Chance your wager using the plus and minis icons
• Click the “i” to check the paytable and see the features (also discussed in this review)
• Toggle the volume on or off using the speaker icon
• Click the gear button for options such as Sound FX and Battery Saver.

Mustang Gold Megaways™ Slot Mobile Compatibility

I expected some issues on mobile, mainly due to the large grid and cluttered game screen. But the mobile version is much more streamlined and manages to fit all of these logos and features without taking away from the experience.

Conclusion

I wouldn’t rank Mustang Gold Megaways™ as the best Wild West slot, or even the best one I’ve played this year, but it definitely deserves to be mentioned in the same conversation as slots like Tombstone No Mercy.

The grid is massive, the features are intriguing, and Megaways™ is the icing on the cake. It’s a solid title from a developer that rarely fails to impress.
