As a big fan of monster flicks and all things Godzilla, I was delighted to see this Popiplay slot pop up. I was even happier when it met my expectations.
The game combines kaiju on a city-destroying mission with massive features that are as impressive as the mechanical monsters stalking the reels. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though, as I had a hard time unlocking the game’s features and wasn’t a fan of all aspects of this slot.
In this Maxzilla slot review, I’ll go over the pros and cons in detail while describing my personal experiences with this game.

Where Can I Play Maxzilla for Real Money?
Give Maxzilla a spin at one of the casinos below.
Don’t overlook that volatility rating, though. It might be rated as 4/5, but I found it to be much higher in practice. I landed a single feature in 500 spins, and while it got a little better after that (see below), that’s a long wait!
That could just be my bad luck, but it’s worth keeping in mind, and if you’re chasing the features like I was, consider dropping your stake to cram more spins into your session.

Pros & Cons of the Maxzilla Slot
I loved most things about Maxzilla, with “most” being the operative word.
It has a big grid, which is to be expected for a slot about giant monsters, but it only has 16 paylines. The developers have missed a trick by not stacking those paylines high, and that will disappoint players who prefer their slots to have hundreds and even thousands of paylines.
This is no Megaways title.
The features perfectly fit the theme, though. They didn’t appear very often for me, but they left a sizeable mark when they did, as I didn’t finish a single feature with a payout of less than 47x.
- Unique kaiju theme
- Wild multipliers
- Free spins
- High maximum win of 10,000x
- Generous 97.04% RTP
- Only 16 paylines
My Tips For Players
If you click the menu icon (bottom-left corner—look for the three lines), you can access the game’s rules (question mark), paytable (moneybag), and settings (gear icon). But there is an easier way to learn about the slot’s symbols—click the symbol on the grid.
It triggers a pop-up that shows what that specific symbol is worth for 3, 4, and 5 symbol combinations. It appears as a cool monster card that shows you the symbol (“Monster”) and values (“Attack”).
If you want to speed things up and you’re using a desktop/laptop, press the space bar to spin. This is a default hotkey, so if you’re worried about hitting it accidentally, check the game’s settings and toggle the “Spacebar to Spin” option.
Maxzilla Slot Bonus Features
The features on Maxzilla looked very promising, and I was eager to try them. Imagine my disappointment when I span over 200 times and didn’t unlock any of them. In fact, it wasn’t until my 258th spin that I unlocked the free spins feature (it took over 40 spins just to get 2 Scatters on the reels).
The feature was as good as I had anticipated, but that’s a lot of spins, and it doesn’t stop there. I wanted to see what the Wild feature was all about, so I kept going…and going. I finally landed the feature after 740 spins.
That’s the bad news, now for the good.
That first feature triggered a payout of 221x, and when combined with the payline wins to that point, it was enough to cover my bets. If I had stopped there, I could have walked away as a winner, but my eagerness to see the Wild feature left me severely disappointed, as it only lasted for a few seconds and generated a return of just 60x.
Incidentally, I didn’t land another free spins feature while waiting for those Wilds, but one did appear on spin 797, this time for a payout of 47x, and then again on spin 810 for a payout of 66.8x.
Wilds
There are three different coloured Wild Eggs in the game, each carrying various multipliers:
- Blue Egg = 1x to 4x
- Purple Egg = 5x to 20x
- Yellow Egg = 25x to 200x
They can land during the base game, where they help to complete winning combinations. If three of them appear, you will trigger the Shellshock feature.
This is the feature that took me nearly 800 spins to activate, and while it wasn’t worth the wait for me, it could be a different story for you.
There is also a Wild Spin option, which guarantees a Wild symbol for every spin at the cost of 3x the stake (check the “Buy Bonus” button—not available in all jurisdictions). Toggle this mode to increase your chances of unlocking the Shellshock feature and landing more winning combinations in the base game.
Scatter Symbol
The Scatter depicts two monsters locked in battle, with the word “vs” between them. Three of these are needed for the main feature. If you get two of them and there are still reels left to spin, the remaining reels will slow down to increase the tension. The same thing happens with the Shellshock feature.
Can’t seem to land enough Scatters for the feature? I know how you feel. In some jurisdictions, there is a “Buy Feature” icon. Click this to reveal a series of options that let you pay an upfront sum to unlock the game’s features. The price depends on your stake and ranges from 100x for Shellshock to 200x for the main feature.
Free Spins
I was given 10 free spins as a reward for my persistence in unlocking the main feature, known as the Monster Showdown.
It activated more frequently than the Shellshock feature for me, and it turned out to be more generous. The feature can trigger Monster Reels, which are Stacked Wilds that come with multipliers of between 2x and 200x, depending on the monsters (kaiju) on the reels.
If there is more than one of these Monster Reels active, the multipliers will combine for big wins. This is what happened to me the first time I unlocked the feature, which is why I scored a payout of over 200x. Without those combinations, the feature is nowhere near as generous.

Maxzilla Slot on Mobile
Despite some very busy reels, detailed illustrations, and a big background, the Maxzilla slot looks as good on smaller touchscreens as it does on big desktops.
It’s easy to play, and after testing it on both iOS and Android devices, I can confirm that it’s fully mobile optimised and will appeal to players who prefer to spin on smartphones and tablets.
Do I Recommend Maxzilla To Players?
Yes, if you like the theme. The sci-fi vibe and Wild setup (multiplier Wilds that become stacked in the feature), Maxzilla is very similar to Area 69. That’s bad news if you’re not a fan of that slot, but it’s great news for me, as I loved it.
I had more luck on Area 69, but as far as the features and gameplay go, they both impressed me equally. I like that Maxzilla uses big Wilds in the base game and gives you two features to aim for.
Take it for a spin and see if you have more luck than I did.
Frequently Asked Questions

The T-Rex Monster returns the biggest payouts. He’s the one with the golden border.
No, you don’t need to have Wild Spin active to launch the Shellshock feature. I didn’t activate it before I got Shellshock, but that could be why it took me nearly 800 spins!
Although these symbols look like the destroyable blocks seen in some other slots—the ones that you can break to expand the game grid—they merely serve as lower-paying symbols here. If you look closely, you will see they are actually monster footprints.
It took nearly 800 spins before I triggered both of them, but that’s just my experience. You could get them on your first spin, or it could take you 1,000. That’s the nature of the game!
