Gonzo’s Gold is the latest slot release from NetEnt featuring the famous Spanish conquistador. Set in the lost city of El Dorado deep in South America, the game still has the same atmospheric tunes and theme but without the animated effects that made the first release so charming. Instead of popping up in front of the grid as a lively character, Gonzo, alongside Inca gods, now appears on an expanded 5×5 grid as the highest-paying symbol.
Winning combinations are also triggered differently, and if you’ve followed Gonzo’s journey, you’ll spy that NetEnt has taken this release in a completely new direction. But is this new path adventurous enough for Gonzo? Find out in our slot review below.

Gonzo’s Gold Bonus Features
With its simple gameplay and minimalistic bonus features, Gonzo’s Gold is the opposite of the iconic Gonzo’s Quest. The cascading reels here have been replaced with the clusters pay mechanic and wilds turned into mystery symbols. All that is left of the original slot features is the free spins bonus round, but this time it contains an extra feature in the form of the pick-and-click game. The multipliers have also vanished leaving space for expanding symbols giving the game an unexpected ‘book of’ feel.
Scatters
Without the wilds, scatters are your next best friends in Gonzo’s Gold. Appearing as golden Inca temples soaring into the red sky, they are the key to unlocking the free spins bonus round. Additionally, scatters award 2x, 20 and 200x your stake for 3, 4 and 5 symbols, respectively.
Free Spins
When 3 or more temple scatters land anywhere on the reels in the base game, they trigger the bonus round complete with 10 free spins and a pick bonus game. The pick-and-click game contains 9 mystery symbols, one of which will transform into an expanding symbol after you’ve made your choice. If two of the special symbols land adjacent to each other, they’ll expand to cover an entire row or reel depending on their position on the grid.
Any additional scatters that land during the bonus round will trigger another lot of 10 free spins as well as pay their respective values if 3 or more scatters reach the reels on a single spin.
Gonzo’s Gold Jackpot
There is no jackpot offered in Gonzo’s Gold but the max potential here is extended to a treasure-like 6,500x your stake.
RTP and Volatility
If the flagship slot was set to medium/high volatility, the developer rated the new adventure as plain high, so arm yourself with patience. The wins won’t hit very often, but they will be huge when they do. The RTP is 96.11%, which is a lot higher than the figure given to the earlier release.
