Pragmatic Play has rated the volatility of this as “very high”, and I can confirm. I recommend being very cautious with this one and preparing for some potentially long winless runs.

It took me 452 spins to unlock the bonus feature for the first time, and with a payout of 48.95x, it wasn’t really worth it. Of course, it’s not all about the free spins, especially on Cluster Pays and Tumbling Reels, but I didn’t have much luck before unlocking that feature, either.

I had one win that the game labelled as “Mega”, amounting to just 30x, and I saw about half a dozen labelled as “Nice”, with most giving me around 15x.

That’s just my experience, but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

Gem Elevator Slot Bonus Features and Free Spins

The Cluster Pays and Tumbling Reels combination is active on every spin in this slot, including both the base game and free spins. It kept things interesting for me, and while it didn’t produce any huge wins in my playthrough, there were times when seemingly worthless boards were transformed into moderate chain reaction payouts.

The Cluster Pays feature means the game pays when matching symbols form clusters of at least five. The Tumbling Reels kick in when those wins form, destroying the symbols responsible and dropping new ones into the empty spaces that they create.

Wilds

The Wild symbol is a gold nugget that substitutes for everything except the Scatter. It can land on all of the reels and help to form winning combinations. It didn’t really do me any big favours during the base game, but it played a big role in the free spins and helped to form some of my biggest payouts.

Elevator Nudge

After a winning spin, the reels can be nudged up or down. The miner beside the grid will pull a rope to move the reels, and if he brings a Wild into play, it can carry a multiplier of between 1x and 10x.

Scatter Symbol

The Scatter symbol is a drill and can appear on all reels. It took me about 100 spins before I saw 3 Scatters on the reels at the same time. Usually, that would have been enough to trigger the feature, but in this game, you need four, and that didn’t happen to me until my 452nd spin.

To give you an idea of how varied experiences can be, there were just four occasions during my first 300 spins where I saw three Scatters on the reels. In the following 15 spins, it happened another four times.

Free Spins

I got 10 free spins after first triggering the bonus feature. If I had landed five or six Scatters, I would have received 15 or 20, respectively.

During every spin in this feature, one or more reels are chosen at random to receive a nudge, moving either up or down and helping to align more combinations. If you reveal more Scatters, you’ll get another five, eight, or 10 spins.

In some jurisdictions, not including the UK, you can buy the feature for 100x. It’s a lot of money, though, so consider your choice carefully. In my case, I would have been better off, as that 100x is much less than the 200x I lost by unlocking the round organically. But as I only claimed 48.95x, it still wouldn’t have been worth it.

Gem Elevator Slot Design and Visuals

The theme of the Gem Elevator slot reminds me a lot of Dwarf Mine from Yggdrasil Gaming. It showcases a massive game 5×6 game grid filled with colourful gems. There isn’t much else happening here, though.

Sure, the gameplay is solid, and the Tumbling Reels kept me interested, but there’s very little room for a busy backdrop, and the developers over at Pragmatic Play have decided against intricately designed symbols.

The character on the side of the reels interacts occasionally, moving the reels up and down, but the game definitely leans more toward the simple side of things. Then again, it’s colourful and fun, and that makes up for the lack of a big story or fun animations.

How to Play the Gem Elevator Slot

Even if you’re new to Cluster Pays and Tumbling Reels, you shouldn’t struggle with this one. It’s very self-explanatory. I recommend checking out the paytable (“i” icon) for more info, though.

Here are some other things to consider

• Always check the default bet and change it as needed
• You need clusters of five matching symbols to win
• Winning symbols disappear and are replaced by new ones
• If new symbols create wins, the process repeats and can keep going until there are no more wins
• The free spins are unlocked by revealing four Scatters anywhere on the grid
• Toggle the audio on and off using the speaker icon in the bottom left

Gem Elevator Slot Mobile Compatibility

I enjoy playing well-designed slots on mobile. There’s something so satisfying about seeing those graphics on a small scale and interacting via a touchscreen. That’s especially true for iPads and iPhones, which always seem to make these games stand out. But Gem Elevator didn’t really benefit from that. The graphics are fairly standard, and there are no animations or big 3D effects that necessitate the use of high-res screens.

It still works, and it works pretty well, but it wasn’t that much different from the desktop experience.

Ending Thoughts

Gem Elevator is a good slot with some great features. It grabbed my interest with the first few spins and held it through the first few dozen, but the lack of a dynamic background and unique symbols means it starts to feel generic beyond that. A little more work on the illustrations and animations, as well as the sound effects, could have really “elevated” this slot.
