Area 69 is a quirky little slot from a developer that has repeatedly impressed me these last couple of years. Its comical design is a refreshing change from the usual fare, and the combination of multipliers, free spins, and respins is a nice touch. I would have preferred more paylines, but there were definitely more positives than negatives in my playthroughs.
In my Area 69 slot review, I’ll go over these highlights in more detail, discussing why this Summer-2024 release deserves to be on more players’ radars.

Pros & Cons of the Area 69 Slot
Area 69 has a party vibe, as it’s based on an alien throwing parties at a secure Area 51-type location. But it’s the features that stood out to me, including an excellent respin feature and 10 free spins.
I didn’t really have any issues with the game, so it’s hard for me to pick fault. I would have liked to see more base game features—Cascading Reels and Cluster Pays are always welcome—and more of a dynamic backdrop, but it has its own style and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One of the only things that disappointed me was the payline count, which sits at a surprisingly modest 16 and comes across as tame in the age of Megaways.
- Sticky Respins feature
- A free spins feature with 10 spins
- Wild multipliers of up to 200x
- A high maximum win and RTP
- Only 16 paylines
Pro Tips
The fact that multipliers can grow as high as 200x and combine means this is the best chance to trigger the 10,000x maximum payout.
The volatility is high, though, and this means there could be a lot of dry spells. You could win with your first spin, but it’s more likely that you’ll go many spins without getting anything (which is what happened to me).
Keep this in mind, adjust your budget accordingly, and stay patient while always betting within your means.
Area 69 Slot Bonus Features
I can’t resist a good bonus feature, especially one that includes animations and modifiers.
Area 69 includes a couple of these features, along with a more traditional free spins round. It all ties in with the game’s theme, showing that the developers have really tried to make this their own.
I tried all of these features in demo mode. I wasn’t able to unlock them organically, but there’s a “Buy Feature” option in demo mode. It costs 3x for the Wild Spin, 100x for Hangover (respins), and 200x for the Alien Abduction (free spins). If you’re playing the game for real money in the UK, this option won’t be available.
Wilds
The Glitter Balls are the Wild symbols in Area 69. The relevance of these symbols was a little lost on me at first, but these glitzy balls have planetary rings, and the game has an alien party theme, so it works.
The Wilds come with multipliers that vary by colour:
- Blue = 1x to 4x
- Purple = 5x to 20x
- Yellow = 25x to 200x
Most of the Wilds I saw in my playthrough were blank, which means there were no multipliers. I also landed some big wins with 4x Wilds, which were surprisingly common.
I never saw anything as high as 200x, or even half that amount, and while I did reveal some of the yellow balls, most of them landed on the final reel and weren’t part of any payouts.
There is a Wild Spin feature, too, but this is only available through the Buy Feature option, which is disappointing. It increases the wager by 3x and guarantees a Wild on each spin.
Don’t let the FOMO effect convince you you’re missing out, though. I landed Wilds on most of my spins anyway, and I didn’t activate this feature.
Scatter Symbol and Free Spins
The Scatter symbol was made to entice sceptics like me, as it’s a UFO that bears the slogan “I Want to Believe”.
It can land on any of the game reels, and three are needed to launch the free spins. I wasn’t able to do this during my review, but the game has a strong RTP and other features, so I was seemingly just unlucky.
The main feature is called Alien Abduction. It creates special Abduction Reels, which are basically Stacked Wilds that show multipliers at the bottom as animals are abducted into a spaceship above.
The type of animal in the reel will determine the size of the multiplier. Roosters are the smallest—those poor chickens don’t get any respect!—while Cows are the biggest. These multipliers offer the same values as the Glitter Balls, with Roosters substituting for Blue Glitter Balls, Pigs for Purple, and Cows for Yellow.
On one occasion, I landed consecutive Alien Abduction reels and was delighted to see that the multipliers combined. It’s just a shame that I was playing in demo mode at the time!
Respins
Three Glitter Balls at once launches the Hangover feature. The size and type of Glitter Ball don’t matter, and as soon as they appear, they stick, and you get three respins.
If another Glitter Ball appears in one of those spins, the counter resets to three, and if multiple ones appear on the same reel, their values combine.
The feature doesn’t appear with the same ceremony as the free spins round, but in several of my playthroughs, I won more here than I did in the main feature. It’s not surprising when you consider it has the same mechanics as the much-loved Hold and Win feature, as seen in Divine Dragon: Hold and Win and Vikings Fortune Hold and Win, among others.

Area 69 Slot on Mobile
Although it already feels like an established developer, Popiplay has only been around since 2022. Unsurprisingly, considering most players now use mobiles, the studio adopts a mobile-first approach, and all games look great on smaller screens.
I tried it on both Android and iOS and didn’t have an issue with either. Usually, I prefer playing on tablets to smartphones, as the menu icons can be a little fiddly on smaller screens, but the developers have taken this into consideration, and I found Area 69 to be streamlined and perfectly suitable for smartphones.
What Is My Verdict On Area 69
I have noticed that bonus-heavy slots tend to disappoint when it comes to max wins and RTPs. Sometimes, it feels like you have to sacrifice these key metrics if you want a chance to unlock many features. That wasn’t the case with Area 69, though. I loved the selection of bonuses and was particularly drawn to the respins, which appealed to me as a fan of similarly styled Hold and Win mechanics.
The free spins are a great addition, and everything is wrapped up nearly in a smartly designed theme that remains consistent throughout the slot, with appropriate sounds, images, and features all boosting the immersion.

It depends on the option you choose. The Wild Spin costs 3x the stake, but the main feature is 200x.
Not if you’re in the UK. UK regulators outlawed these options several years ago, along with anything designed to speed up or automate gameplay.
The little green alien returns the most of the main game symbols.
The largest single multiplier is 200x, but you can combine them in the base game and main feature, so it could be a lot higher.
