My Personal Opinion on the Angel vs Sinner Slot

I expected a lot from Angel vs Sinner and got very little. The name conjured images of the classic Good Girl, Bad Girl slot and other similarly-themed titles, whereby the game is split into two modes with matching features. But that’s not what’s happening here. It’s a very simple game in style and substance, and even if I ignore my initial expectations, it’s still disappointing to find a slot with few modifiers, no bonus game beyond the free spins, and no intriguing base game mechanics.

On the plus side, the maximum payout is high and it comes loaded with Pragmatic Play’s inimitable style. It’s good, but it could have been so much better.

Pros & Cons of the Angel vs Sinner Slot

My experience of the Angel vs Sinner slot was somewhat frustrating. I can’t blame the developers for my expectations (although they certainly could have done more with the theme), but I would have liked to see the titular characters play more of a role. A base game mechanic like Tumbling Reels or even a few modifiers wouldn’t go amiss, either.

The free spins are fun, though, and I loved the Expanding Wild and the win cap of 15,000x.

Pros
  • Thumbs-Up Free spins
  • Thumbs-Up Wilds and Expanding Wilds
  • Thumbs-Up Multiplier Wilds in the base game and free spins
  • Thumbs-Up High maximum payout of 15,000x
Cons
  • Thumbs-Down Not much happening in the base game
  • Thumbs-Down No additional bonus feature

Pro Tips

I recommend keeping your expectations low and preparing for long, winless runs when playing highly volatile slots like Angel vs Sinner. In my playthrough, there were multiple times when I took 20+ spins without getting a return, and it took me about 260 spins to unlock the main feature.

So, budget accordingly. If it helps, consider reducing your stake to account for the high volatility. It will prolong your session.

Angel vs Sinner Slot Bonus Features and Free Spins

There is usually some kind of split game mode or battle feature in games with “vs” in the title. That’s what I expected from Angel vs Sinner, but it’s not what I got.

The only feature that brings the “angel” and the “sinner” together is the Expanding Wild, which triggers a brief battle.

I still enjoyed this feature, though, and I encountered a few others in my review.

Wilds and Expanding Wilds

The Wild substitutes for everything except the Scatter and also awards payouts of up to 8x for a full payline of Wilds. The Expanding Wild is where the action is, though. It can appear on any reel and begins with a contest between good and evil, each holding a multiplier.

The winner stays on the reels, fixing the multiplier at between 2x and 100x. If there are multiple Expanding Wilds, they will add together to boost the multipliers and payouts.

Scatter Symbol

Scatters were few and far between in my playthrough. In fact, I had taken 81 spins before I had my first spin with more than one of these symbols, giving me a taste of the classic slowed-down final reel.

That fifth reel didn’t reveal the final Scatter needed for the free spins, though. I had more waiting ahead of me for that.

Free Spins

I waited a long time to trigger the free spins in this slot. I lost count after 200 spins, but I estimate that it took me about 260 spins. That would have been fine if those spins were worth it, but in the end, I walked away with a modest 2.3x payout for my troubles. And no, that isn’t a misplaced decimal point!

It is a decent feature, and I can see the potential there, but it’s not as impactful as I was hoping.

In the spirit of fairness, I should note that within 10 spins of finishing that feature and collecting that modest 2.3x payout, I unlocked the feature again, and this time I won 68x.

I got 10 free spins each time. It’s not possible to get more. Every time an Expanding Wild lands, it remains on the screen, and the multiplier it shows is valid for each spin thereafter. This was actually the difference maker between my two features. In the first, I didn’t land any Expanding Wilds. In the second, I had two, and both had multipliers of 2x.

There is an option to buy the free spins at a cost of 75x the stake, but this isn’t available in the UK. Also, based on my own experiences, I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s a very volatile feature, and I couldn’t get more than 75x when unlocking it.

Angel vs Sinner Slot Design and Visuals

I wasn’t a big fan of the design of Angel vs Sinner, but that’s just my personal preference. There are Angel and Sinner characters on either side of the reels, but while they are animated, they don’t really do anything. The backdrop is fairly plain, but the grid is a sizeable 5×5 and focused all of my attention throughout.

I‘ve certainly seen better from Pragmatic Play, but it’s a good effort, nonetheless.

How to Play the Angel vs Sinner Slot

If you have played any Pragmatic Play slots in the past, you’ll recognise the layout of this one. It was all very familiar to me, and getting started was easy. Here’s what I did:

  • Set my stake using the “+” and “-“ buttons
  • Read through the paytable using the “i” button
  • Checked the sound settings via the gear icon
  • Pressed the big button to spin the reels

Angel vs Sinner Slot Mobile Compatibility

I didn’t have any issues playing this game on mobile and tested it on both an iOS and an Android device. There aren’t many features and there are no complicated mechanics, so the mobile experience was the same as the desktop one.

I gravitated more toward my laptop in the end, but that’s often the case, and if you prefer mobile slots, you’re better off sticking with your phone or tablet.

Conclusion

The Angel vs Sinner slot is a good game from a talented developer, but I can’t help but feel that it could have been much better. I think about how this slot would have looked with more base game mechanics, a modifier or two, and something that actually made the “vs” element relevant, such as a mode that lets you switch between “Angel” or “Sinner”, changing volatility, features, and aesthetics in the process.

Instead, what I discovered was a fairly average slot. Sure, the big free spins feature helps, and it’s elevated above mediocrity by the inclusion of a high maximum payout and an Expanding Wild, but with a little more effort, this could have been extraordinary.

FAQs

If you want to ask a question that wasn’t addressed in this review, contact me here and I’ll do my best to answer it.

You will get 10 free spins upon unlocking the feature.

The game’s maximum win of 15,000x is most likely to appear during the free spins feature, thanks to the Expanding Wilds and the multipliers they carry.

It costs 75x the stake, but this option is not available to players in the UK. Remember, if you unlock the feature using this option, there is no guarantee that you will win more than your stake, and you could end up with a marginal and disappointing payout.

The Angel and Wild both pay 8x for revealing five of them on a single payline. The Sinner is the third highest and returns up to 4x.
