Founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou has leveraged the Easy brand for a number of different purposes and is now involved in the launch of EasyBet, a joint venture with Matchbook, a trading name of Triplebet. Something Stelios described as “a natural new market to complement our other large consumer brands”.
Triplebet is a company that has been in the news as the Gambling Commission suspended their gambling licence back in 2020 and issued a £740,000 fine due to non-compliance. These issues have since been addressed and the company is back trading.
Australian Zeljko Ranogajec owns Triplebet brand through an Isle of Man-based holding company called Newfoundland Limited. This joint venture sees Matchbet use the brand and pay a fee to EasyGroup in return for doing so. This is something that is pretty common, and Haji-Ionnau has not been too choosy about where the name is used. Easy has also been applied to companies in the pet niche, as well as coffee shops and roasters. Now, EasyBet is here.
EasyBet allows people to place wagers on thousands of sportsbook markets, as well as some others, including politics. Matchbook’s platform uses an exchange method rather than a tote-based betting system. It means that for everyone betting on an event specifically, people are “laying” that bet or taking the opposite position.
Malcolm Graham, Chief Executive, explained that the company was “thrilled that we will be supporting Stelios’ philanthropic activities via the license fees being paid to easyGroup”. Stelios Philanthropic Foundation provides a lot of support to charities and people in need and the funds will be used, at least in part, to fund this.
