With all of the participants now having picked their artists and songs, all eyes have turned to who will triumph in Basel – and as is now custom, it’s not looking good for the UK.
Sweden is the joint most successful nation in Eurovision history along with Ireland, ever since Abba stormed to victory in 1974 with Waterloo. With seven wins each, Sweden could break that tie with KAJ and their 2025 entry ‘Bara bada bastu.’ Currently the favourite with some bookmakers at 12/5, others have them neck and neck at 9/4 with Austria.
Austria last won Eurovision back in 2014 thanks to Conchita Wurst, in 2025 it will be up to JJ and his track Wasted Love to take the trophy back to Vienna.
Eurovision fans in the UK will have to contend with back another outsider with country-tinged trio Remember Monday set to ask ‘What the hell just happened?’ in Basel on May 17th. Those watching around the world will be asking that same question if the UK entry manages to win given some oddsmakers have them at 150/1.
If success is going to come from the “Big Five” nations who automatically qualify for the Eurovision final – France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK – it’s the French who look most likely. Louane and her track ‘Maman’ is 5/1 to achieve France’s first win since 1977.
Host Odds: Betting on Graham Norton’s Replacement
But it’s not just the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest that the bookmakers such as bet365 and Boylesports have in their sights as there could be a major shake-up of who hosts the event in the UK.
For years, Terry Wogan was the voice of Eurovision in the UK, providing light-hearted commentary to help viewers understand the proceedings. Graham Norton took over that role in 2009 and 16 years later, bookmakers are already looking to the future if the popular star ever decided to step aside.
Rylan Clark and Scott Mills handled commentary duties for the 2024 semi-finals before Norton took over for the main event. Mills and Clark provided radio coverage of the final with Richie Anderson covering those duties for the semi-finals.
It’s no wonder then that both Scott Mills and Rylan Clark are frontrunners to take over from Graham Norton should he step down from his Eurovision duties at 10/11. Since 2024’s event Scott Mills has taken over the coveted breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 which might work in another candidate’s favour.
Former Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc is 6/4. She has history with Eurovision as well, having commentated on the 2023 final alongside Norton and hosting Eurovision: You Decide, the show which has picked many UK Eurovision entrants.
Claudia Winkleman ranks slightly below Giedroyc with the bookmakers at 2/1 but she has filled in for Graham Norton on his BBC chat show and given her huge rise in popularity thanks to The Traitors, she could be a massive get for Eurovision coverage.
As could the multi-talented Hannah Waddingham (5/2) who shared presenting duties for the Eurovision Song Contest when it took place in Liverpool in 2023 alongside Alesha Dixon, Graham Norton, and Ukraine’s Julia Sanina. Waddingham is no slouch when it comes to belting out a tune and given her rise to success through roles in Game of Thrones and Ted Lasso, she could prove to be a major coup for the BBC.
Waddingham’s 2023 co-host Alesha Dixon is 4/1 to take over Eurovision duties from Graham Norton with 2024’s entrant in the competition Olly Alexander ahead of her in the pecking order at 3/1. Alexander entered the contest in Sweden with ‘Dizzy’ but could only manage 18th place with a disappointing 46 points. Other names in the frame include Joanna Lumley (5/1), Jack Whitehall (6/1), and Ant and Dec (7/1).
Given that there is no hint that Graham Norton is ready to hang up his Eurovision microphone just yet, these odds could all change in the future and a new surprise name could end up carrying the baton for the UK in the commentary box.
